Watami Japanese Casual Dining Restaurant Malaysia unveiled 20 exciting new gastronomic creations including a new pork menu in a Grand Feast at its flagship outlet at 1Utama yesterday. The new dishes comprised part of the Grand Menu which features over 100 varieties of original Watami fusion fare.
“Watami Malaysia is pleased to present 20 new dishes originating from Tokyo underscoring our focus on variety and authenticity of our Modern Japanese cuisine as we celebrate the arrival of the Grand Menu on our shores,” said Nelson Wang, Vice President of Operations and Business Development, Chaswood Group.
The 20 dishes make up only a quarter of new additions to the existing menu available at all 3 of its Klang Valley outlets. Watami Malaysia has outlets in Pavilion KL, 1 Utama Shopping Centre and Paradigm Mall, Kelana Jaya.
“With our extensive Grand menu featuring new pork items, diners will be spoilt for choice by the plethora of delectable and diverse new flavours carefully designed to heighten their “Ishokuya” experience, Watami’s concept of wining and dining delicious food in the company of friends and loved ones in a comfortable environment,” added Wang.
Anchovies and Garlic Seafood Pizza
Headlining the new Grand menu is the Anchovies and Garlic Seafood Pizza that is sure to delight pizza lovers with squid, shrimp and scallops loaded on a bed of homemade tomato sauce infused with anchovies and garlic, and blanketed with a layer of piping hot melted cheese. The thin pizza crust compliments the toppings with a perfect crunch whilst the Japanese pesto sauce adds an extra zing in every bite.
Salmon Sashimi Salad
Health conscious diners may opt for the Salmon Sashimi Salad which features a refreshing blend of julienned radish, onion and crispy seaweed tossed with aromatic fried wonton skin, a healthy amount of mixed nuts as well as soft, tender slices of fresh salmon and drizzled with a fresh Grapefruit dressing.
Salmon Magurro Carpaccio
An alternative salmon dish is the Salmon Magurro Carpaccio which offers thin-sliced salmon and tuna sashimi with a distinct Italian garlic sea-clam sauce and green garlic dressing made from garlic, olive oil, spinach and perilla leaf.
Jikasei Niku Miso Hiyaako
Other appetisers worthy of mention include the Watami Tokusei Tori Karaage or special deep fried chicken; Unagi Chawanmushi or eel chawanmushi; Rosu Katsu which is deep fried pork cutlet with shredded cabbage and sesame dressing; Kushi Moriawase, an assorted skewer dish with chicken wing, chicken thigh, chicken gristle, beef and eringi mushroom roll and beef and spring onion roll; Puchi Tomato Butaniku Maki Kushi which features succulent pork rolled with cherry tomato on a skewer and grilled till golden brown; and Jikasei Niku Miso Hiyaako which is essentially silken cubes of cold tofu served with flavoured minced meat and Japanese leek.
Anago Tempura Maki
Lovers of good sushi will appreciate the delectable Anago Tempura Maki or sea eel tempura roll and the succulent Tamago Yaki Sushi or egg roll nigiri sushi. For those with a preference for stir-fried dishes, Yasai Kinoko Itami serves up an appetizing hot plate of sliced pork, cabbage, carrot, Enoki mushroom, Shimeji mushroom and Shiitake mushroom, bean sprouts and nira. Fans of the savoury Japanese pancake will find joy in the Hiroshima-fu Okonomiyaki which tempts the most resolute of dieters with juicy pork slices on a okomiyaki base slathered with special sauce, dried bonito and a sprinkling of Aonori flakes.
Kara Miso Ramen
As an ode to its Japanese heritage, Watami also introduced its very own Tonkatsu Ramen, combining the two Japanese classics of “Ramen” and “Tonkatsu” into one instantly recognizable dish. Rashers of pork chashu float in a special pork broth surrounded by the classic ingredients of flavoured half-boiled egg, crispy beansprouts and bamboo shoots, with a dash of Japanese leek and spring onion. For lovers of spicy Japanese ramen, Watami offers the Kara Miso which features ramen, bean sprouts, half-boiled egg, pork chashu and Japanese leek in a spicy miso based soup.
Tokyo Rosu Katsu Don
Fancy pork cutlets with rice? Watami’s Tokyo Rosu Katsu Don is a classic dish of prime cut deep fried pork loin in a golden pool of scrambled egg and homemade Watami katsu sauce, served on a bed of warm rice and garnished with fresh spring onion. Diners will also find great rice dish alternatives in the Ishiyaki Kaisen Garlic Rice which is a blend of rice, shrimp, scallop, egg, tobikko, shredded nori, garlic butter, Dashi soy sauce and spring onion served in a hot pot; and Chicken Katsu Kare which features a crumbed chicken cutlet rice with Japanese sweet curry.
Last but not least, for the hot pot enthusiast, Watami offers the Kankoku Butechige, a Korean inspired, army-style mini cauldron of decadent ingredients ranging fresh vegetables, pork and noodles to sea clams, korean rice cakes and kimchi in a special spicy broth.
