On Friday, 18 October 2013 at 9.30pm, the Asian Food Channel (AFC), part of the Scripps Networks Interactive family of lifestyle networks, will premiere a brand new lifestyle culinary series inspired by tea called Tea Twist. The programme, which features local Malaysian chef, Nik Michael Imran, is in collaboration with LIPTON Tea, the number one hot tea brand in the world. The six-part series will air regionally across Asia to AFC viewers in twelve different territories. Viewers in Malaysia can catch the AFC Original Production nationwide on Astro Channel 703.
The half-hour episodes of Tea Twist feature Chef Nik showcasing his creativity and inspiration in giving LIPTON YELLOW LABEL teabags a new twist and turning them into a variety of exciting tea drinks suited for any social occasion and moments. Along the way, viewers will also discover Chef Nik’s culinary talent and witness his fun-filled life outside the kitchen. He is joined by his family and friends as he creates wonderful tea beverages and scrumptious food for them to enjoy.
The introduction of Tea Twist is in conjunction with the rollout campaign by LIPTON – “A New Twist to Your LIPTON Moments” in Malaysia, anchored on LIPTON YELLOW LABEL teabags. The campaign introduces new and exciting concepts in tea drinking by giving teabags a new twist with simple ingredients available around us – turning hot tea into exciting and uplifting hot and cold beverages for any day and any occasion.
Seven tea recipes will be introduced throughout Tea Twist and in each episode, Chef Nik will pair an exciting tea drink with a main course or a dessert. Chef Nik will also surprise the viewers with two cooking recipes using tea, giving tea a new light in the cooking scene!
The seven tea drinks are: Paradise Sunrise, Ice Tea Sparkle, Honey Lemongrass Tea (hot and cold), Mo-Tea-To, Lovely Berries and Earl Grey Ginger Tea Latte.
Rakesh Mohan, Chairman of Unilever Malaysia and Singapore said, “We want to truly showcase how versatile and interesting tea can be and we are absolutely thrilled to partner with AFC and Malaysia’s up and coming talented chef, Nik Michael Imran. LIPTON as a brand, aims to bring positivity and mood enhancing moments to consumers through our tea, and brighten up the day of each of our consumers. We hope consumers will give the refreshing new tea recipes on Tea Twist a try.”
Herry Budiazhari, Marketing Director of Unilever Malaysia said, “LIPTON teabag is clearly the number one teabag in Malaysia. The LIPTON YELLOW LABEL teabags are made from the finest international blends from Ceylon and Kenya, giving LIPTON tea its signature aroma and taste. It is ideal to leverage on these strengths and enhance the LIPTON tea experience with an exciting twist. Teabags have been consumed as a ritual and we are inspiring consumers to jazz up tea and bring it to the next level by making it as the exciting drinks for any meals, festive, & social occasion.”
Derek Chang, Managing Director of Scripps Networks Interactive Asia Pacific, shares his feeling about the premiere of AFC’s latest original series “We are glad to have embarked on this partnership with Unilever Malaysia and look towards working on more complementary projects together in the future. Both AFC and Unilever Malaysia are passionate about sharing the joy of food and beverage with the Malaysian community and this project has helped us to further realize this passion. This is the first tea-centric series that AFC has filmed and we are excited to premiere this new and interesting concept to our viewers. Scripps Networks Interactive is also happy to welcome Chef Nik into the AFC family of Celebrity Chefs and we look forward to finding and cultivating more Asian talent in Malaysia and sharing such homegrown talent with the world.”
Chef Nik shares his views on his experience shooting Tea Twist, “Tea is a very compatible and flexible drink. It is amazing how well tea works with many great flavours and spices especially spices and herbs more familiar with Asians. Each spice, herb or fruit triggers a completely different experience. I had a lot of fun experimenting with the Lipton team as well and I hope viewers will be inspired to brighten their day with a new twist to tea.”
Herry added, “Drinking black tea is no longer confined to just ‘plain’ or with sugar nor should the refreshing teabag be limited to morning and tea time rituals but as an exciting refreshment to be enjoyed every day and at any occasion.”
LIPTON will also embark on a sampling activation at selected hypermarkets and supermarkets to bring the refreshing tea experience to life. There will also be more exciting activation planned out in conjunction with the campaign very soon!
Catch the premiere of Tea Twist exclusively on the Asian Food Channel, Friday 18 October at 9.30pm on Astro Channel 703.
