If you are familiar with Korean cuisine or been to Korea before, then Topokki, or better known as Korean rice cake in English, is not something new or strange to the local Korean food enthusiasts here.

Thanks to the lovely invitation from Myeongdong Topokki, I recently had the chance to try out their Korean rice cake, the star highlight of their small but comfortable restaurant, one of the newest foodie haven located at Asian Avenue, Sunway Pyramid.

Brightly lit with Korean subway as the main concept of their interior layout, Myeongdong Topokki also served other delicious authentic Korean street foods to cater the different taste buds.

Paldo Rice Punch & Pear Juice (RM4.50 each)

A sweet Korean traditional drink with soft chewy rice grain in it.

Urban Salada (RM5.80)

A healthy simple bowl of salad with sliced apple, crabstick, avocado, veggies, cherry tomato, and the refreshing own-mixed pineapple sauce, which was so appetizing it made me finished all my veggies!

MyeongDong Topokki (RM8.90)

Topokki, or rice cakes, was a classic Korean snack food that made with glutinous rice. Steamed till it formed a perfect chewy texture, normally Korean will have it with the spicy sauce that use GoChuJang (red chili paste) as the main ingredient to give that amazing kick or unique burst of flavour.

Available in 2 types, original or hot challenge sauce, MyeongDong Topokki here was served together with the imported fish cake (Eomuk, a processed seafood made of ground white fish and other ingredients) as well in a convenient take-away paper bowl.

Bulgogi Daebap Beef Set (RM12.90)

If rice is your staple, try this irresistible bulgogi beef rice that will makes you salivate.

Served along with the clear nutritious Hai Dai soup (sea kelp) and 3 mini banchan – spicy kimchi, refreshing pickled cucumber and sweet savory anchovies with peanuts, the rice had generous toppings of sliced bulgogi beef, seaweed, glass noodle, onion, mushroom and sesame in tantalizing own-mixed sauce that was so good to go with the rice.

Kimali (RM7)

One of the highlighted Korean street foods here is the Kimali, a deep fried marinated glass noodle that wrapped with fragrant seaweed sheet. Contrast in texture between the soft glass noodle and crispy outer layer, this was my first time trying it and I quite enjoyed the bite, it was like chewing a mouthful of glass noodle without slurping it.

Tempura Egg (RM2 per pcs)

Chef deep fried the breaded tempura egg till golden perfection and I love it, so crispy the outer layer, made me almost had the 2nd piece!

Karaage Chicken (RM6.50)

Deep fried till golden brown perfection boneless chicken thigh in special marinade.
