3M Malaysia, in collaboration with Julia Gabriel Center pre-school today launched the first-ever Drinking Water Week in Malaysia, set to take place from 18 to 22 May with aims of advocating cleaner, clearer and better tasting drinking water and better drinking water habits to improve the health & well-being of Malaysian families.
“With over 75 years of filtration experience, we at 3M believe that it is our role to ensure every child, parent and teacher is educated on the importance of cleaner, clearer and better tasting drinking water – particularly the role it plays in a child’s development,” said Lewis Wong, General Manager of 3M Industrial Business Group.
“By serving the fundamentals of Drinking Water Week, we want every individual to improve their drinking water habits at home and in school and ensure that they demand for better water quality by understanding the host of water-related ailments which are easily preventable,” he added.
Held at the Julia Gabriel Center in Citta Mall, parents, teachers and children came together with professionals to recognize the vital role that cleaner, clearer and better tasting water plays in our daily lives. Invited speaker Indra Balaratnam, one of Malaysia’s most well-known consultant dietitians conducted a fun and engaging parenting skill session on how to better encourage their children to drink more water and get more fluids in their daily diet.
Julia Gabriel Center’s teachers are advocating Cleaner, Clearer and Better Tasting Drinking Water through a PlayBear performance at 3M first ever Drinking Water Week.
“More than 65% of lower secondary school students do not drink the recommended 6-8 glasses a day. Instead, more and more children are consuming sugary beverages as a substitute for water, which can lead to future ailments such as dental cavities, diabetes and obesity. Hence, it’s essential for all families and society to be well informed, observant, involved and protective,” Indra explained.

Underlining its commitment to the cause, 3M donated a set of its flagship Drinking Water Filtration System (DWS2500T-CN) and a set of Whole House Filtration System (AP902) to both Julia Gabriel Center branches in the Klang Valley, ensuring cleaner, clearer and better-tasting water for the preschoolers. A live demonstration of the drinking water system later took place to help parents and teachers understand its technology and how it works to reduce water sediments, contaminants, pollutants, and water-borne bacteria.

“Our potable water is treated at water treatment plants so it is safe for consumption; however, in the process of it being channeled from the source to our taps, contamination can sometimes occur due to various factors. That is why water filters are necessary; to block and filter off sediments, rust, chlorine, contaminants and water-borne bacteria,” explained Wong.
He further added that when it came to drinking water, parents and teachers should be thorough in their choices for indoor water filters. “Several things to consider include a clear understanding the effectiveness and capability of any filtration system such as the kind of contaminants it can remove, how much it can remove, and whether there is a third party certification for the claims the brand makes about its product. The goal is to find a system that is easy to use and maintain, and serves the specific needs of a family,” he added.
Headmaster of Julia Gabriel Center, Melissa Joan Fernandez was also present to encourage children to inculcate healthier drinking water habits through a storytelling session “Discovering Wonders of Water”, a collaborative effort by 3M Malaysia and Julia Gabriel Center.

Cleaner, Clearer and Better Tasting in a Convenient Way
3M drinking water filtration system (DWS2500T-CN) is a modern and compact design that fits easily under a kitchen sink, with an indicator to monitor cartridge life. With an effortless twist, you can easily change cartridges in less than 10 seconds.
The DWS2500T-CN system reduces unwanted contaminants such as sediment, turbidity, chlorine taste and odor that may be present in your tap water. It also effectively reduces harmful contaminations, such as lead, mercury, volatile organic chemicals, protozoan cysts and bacteria that may enter your water stream from piping and other sources.
The system reduces up to 99.99% of bacteria and cysts, bringing to you and your family cleaner, clearer, better tasting drinking water.
3M whole house filtration systems are large capacity systems that can filter the water used throughout the entire home and improving the taste and smell of water. The systems also help capture sediment, dirt, and rust to improve the appearance of water.
Delivering Trust in Every Drop of 3M Filtered Water
When searching for a water filtration product, it is important to make sure the product contaminant reduction claims are certified by a reputable, independent source. 3M water filters work hard to manufacture products whose claims pass the rigorous testing standards of one of the most respected names in the industry, NSF.
NSF certification is a critical catalyst in our objective to deliver trust in every drop of 3M filtered water because it is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that provides toxicological reviews, performance testing and manufacturing facility inspections before certification is granted.
This verifies that the strict quality standards of our products, achieve appropriate alignment with NSF expectations.
