As the month of thanks-giving and blessings for Muslims draws near, leading pasta brand San Remo is reinventing traditional pasta dishes with signature local spices to entice the taste buds of Malaysians during Ramadhan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Teaming up with top local Chef, Collin Lim, San Remo held a cooking demonstration to show just how versatile pasta can be.

For a full-bodied Malaysian twist, he matched each type of pasta with a blend of ingredients, fresh herbs and spices, including red chillies, ginger, turmeric, lemongrass and onions for aromatic goodness and rich flavours that one could easily make at home.

Following the demonstration by Chef Collin, a cooking contest was held for members of the media to try their hand at making their own pasta dishes. Divided into teams of six, each group was asked to prepare a dish with the ingredients provided. Putting aside their journalist hats, the participants excitedly chatted about what to cook, before putting their cooking skills to the test, with some guidance from Chef Collin. The teams whipped up a range of hearty dishes, with the best group rewarded with attractive San Remo hampers.

Besides the San Remo hampers, there was a lucky draw where eight winners walked away with an Australian imported pasta cooker each so they could try out their newly-learned pasta recipes at home.
Chef Collin added, “As Malaysians, it is quite common for us to be creative with traditional dishes thanks to our exposure to diverse flavours. With San Remo, you not only get the goodness of pasta in mouth-watering dishes cooked with a Malaysian touch, but you also end up feeling fuller for longer as pasta helps curb hunger pangs till your next meal.”
