Thanks for the wonderful invitation, I recently went to Ploy, a modern Thai and Japanese fusion restaurant, to check out its Ploy-sperity Yee Sang, a unique auspicious creation for the Lunar New Year.

Comprising of 18 tantalizing ingredients with significant cultural meaning, the Ploy-sperity Yee Sang is a vibrant feast for the senses. Topped with a crispy tuille layer adorned with the ‘Monkey’ symbol in Mandarin, made from ground Chinese spices including star anise, cloves, cinnamon and Sichuan peppercorns.

Salmon & scallops, for the ever-flowing abundance; Pomelo, oranges, pear & mango, for the sweetness in luck and prosperity; Shredded beetroot, radish, cucumber & seaweed salad, for the eternal youth and longevity, Pickled ginger for the vitality, Nuts & golden pillows for a household filled with gold and silver, Sesame seeds for the flourishing business, Red & green crackers for the vibrant abundance; Powders to attract more money; as well as Passion fruit & yuzu sauce to encourage the flow of money from all directions.

Ploy has opened its 2nd outlet at Publika Shopping Gallery recently. Meaning ‘gem’ in Thai, Ploy serves the same hugely popular menu from its flagship at Work @ Clearwater (Damansara Heights) at its new Publika location. The new restaurant seats 68 indoors with an al-fresco dining area that can seat up to 28 guests; the entire space spans 2,343 sq. ft. The interiors, similar to its Damansara Heights flagship, will be sleek, contemporary and chic.

Crispy Baby Squids (RM10.50), a highly addictive nibbles with super crispy texture coated in Ploy’s special sauce. Surely a must try if the ingredient is in stock.
[portfolio_slideshow include=”14348″]

The abundance of flavours in this Honey Pepper Wings (RM14) were just so irresistible! The secret? Chef marinated the wings by soaking in his special broth for one whole day. Upon serving, the tender wings were tossed in tasty honey-based soy sauce and sprinkled some sesame on top for the extra fragrant.

Served in sweet and spicy broth that made of dashi, mirin and shoyu with special imported togarashi (Japanese word for red chili pepper), this deep fried Tofu Agedashi (RM11.50) really impressed me with its texture and nice crisp outer layer.
[portfolio_slideshow include=”14361″]

Refreshing Tuna Wakame Salad (RM26.50) with colorful ingredients like mixed greens, tuna cubes, creamy avocado and healthy wakame tossed together in sesame shoyu dressing.
[portfolio_slideshow include=”14355″]

Strong in Thai sweet basil flavor, the runny egg yolk made this mouth-watering squid ink Ploy’s Black Fried Rice (RM30.50) with seafood and chili even more delicious with a creamier texture.
[portfolio_slideshow include=”14360″]

Sometimes, I enjoy to ‘play’ and ‘interact’ with the food my way, like this attractively presented Torched Sunrise Tuna (RM38.50). First, waiter will lightly seared the akami tuna in front of diners. Then, you can wrap the tuna, sushi rice, flying fish roe with Ploy’s signature sauce in a thin seaweed sheet. Tadaa, my mouthwatering Ploy-styled popiah is ready to be eaten. Alternatively, you can also just eat the tuna with sushi rice, whichever way you like it.
[portfolio_slideshow include=”14354″]

Round up the modern Thai and Japanese fusion feast with a whirlwind of joyful dessert like this soft and creamy Durian Panacotta (RM12.50) that made with ‘Raja Kunyit’ durians for its superb fragrant.

I love their CNY dishes, its quite fusion compared to the usually CNY menu. Kind of like fine dining too, the Crispy Baby Squids is tempting.

The tuna looks pretty good! I really like ploy. They’ve always been one of the better Thai places in KL.
