Thanks for the wonderful invitation, I recently went to the Founder’s Reserve launching event by The Glenlivet, a new, permanent expression to the brand’s core range, as well as a tribute to its founder George Smith’s original vision to craft the definitive, smooth single malt whisky.
Staying true to The Glenlivet’s heritage, the Founder’s Reserve boasts the classic fruitiness that has come to define the exceptional quality of malt that was pioneered by George Smith.
This exciting new single malt is presented in a clear glass bottle, used to reinforce the quality credentials of the liquid, highlighting its alluring, pale gold color. The packaging is a fresh Georgian Blue in colour, with a look that feels both classic and contemporary. The new signifier for The Glenlivet, featuring the Packhorse Bridge which crosses the River Livet, appears on both the bottle ‘cartouche’ and on the lid of the carton, with George Smith’s signature featuring boldly on the front face of the carton, providing dynamism and stand-out on shelf.
The Founder’s Reserve also journeyed through the same distilling methods used in 1824, in unique, wide lantern-shaped copper stills created by Smith himself almost 200 years ago.

In present day, Master Distiller Alan Winchester has brilliantly complemented the fruitiness of the Founder’s Reserve with the creaminess and sweetness from the addition of First Fill American oak casks. The result is an outstandingly well-balanced and smooth whisky from the distillery of the single malt that started it all; the very quality for which George Smith’s The Glenlivet was widely admired and appreciated in his day.
“For the Founder’s Reserve, we have the liberty to pick the casks that taste the best. I’m sure George would have been impressed by the choice we have today, and would have enjoyed selecting from so many casks – I know we do. We’ve tried to stay true to his original vision to create the definitive smooth Speyside malt, where quality is paramount,” said Alan.

I like the incredibly smooth Founder’s Reserve. This new expression is suitable for those who are new to single malts as they start their journey down the more complex flavors in the rest of The Glenlivet range of whiskies.
The Founder’s Reserve is gaining recognition globally, winning the Gold Medal at the International Wine & Spirit Competition 2016, as well as a Gold Medal at The Spirits Masters 2015.
The Founder’s Reserve will be available at selected bars and retail outlets nationwide with the same price as The Glenlivet 12 Year Old.
