Thanks to the wonderful invitation from Tao Chinese Cuisine, I recently had the opportunity to try out 6 eclectic selections of baked skin mooncakes and 4 delectable snow skin offerings handmade individually by master dim sum chef Lo Tian Sion in celebration of the blooming beauty of Mid-Autumn Festival.
As mooncake is one of the hallmark traditions of Mid-Autumn Festival, chef Lo’s renowned handmade mooncakes are churned out to the highest quality using his closely guarded recipe and premium quality ingredients and adaption to the likes of local diners’ palate with stronger flavours.
Adhering to its repute of traditional-meets-modern, back by popular demand is the Bamboo Charcoal with Assorted Nuts (RM32 per piece), and Scarlet Baked Snow Skin with Pandan and Salted Egg Bean Paste (RM30 per piece).
For those who love the classics, the halal-certified baked mooncakes include White Lotus Paste with Single Egg Yolk (RM28 per piece), Pure White Lotus Paste with Nuts (RM26 per piece), Shanghai Single Yolk (RM32 per piece), and Golden Jade (RM26 per piece).
Chef’s signature mooncake this year is the Pure Durian with Salted Caramel Chocolate Snow Skin (RM42 per piece). Using pure durian flesh, this bold and rich flavour layered with handmade salted caramel is a luxurious treat not to be missed. Other snow skin delights are Sesame Snow Skin with Japanese Purple Potato and Green Tea (RM28 per piece), as well as Marble Snow Skin with Pandan Paste and Single Yolk (RM28 per piece).
For those opting for an interesting texture and flavour, the Rosella Snow Skin with Cheese and Spirulina Paste (RM28 per piece) is a slight sour relish well-balanced by the tangy savour of spirulina paste, for a lovely bite that is additionally dense with good nutrients.
Baked fresh daily, these mooncakes are exquisitely packed in a choice of luminous gold box or the pulsating charcoal grey. Customers can purchase at the InterContinental Kuala Lumpur lobby counter from 17 July to 4 October 2017. Those who order in bulk (box of 4) can enjoy discounts 20% off (25-50 boxes), 25% off (51-100 boxes), and 30% off (101 and above boxes).
