Malaysians love their chicken rice until some people can have it everyday as their staple food. It is a popular dish that’s easy to get at anywhere.
Located along the busy street of Jalan Sultan, I will come to Nam Heong for their chicken rice whenever I am at the Chinatown Kuala Lumpur. Their traditional, age-old recipe for chicken rice has perfected over the 75 years.
Nam Heong Chicken Rice’s rich history started more than 78 years ago. Started in 1938 by 3 immigrants from Hainan China, Nam Heong was a coffee shop selling Hainanese Coffee, Toast and Eggs. At a later stage, Hainanese Chicken Rice was introduced as an additional dish for the customers to choose from. As it turned out, the Hainanese Chicken Rice received very positive response from the customers!
Nam Heong’s house speciality are Roast Chicken (RM4.80), Steamed White Chicken (RM4.80), and Village Chicken (RM8). Renowned for its succulent taste and aromatic flavours since 1938, the great tasting chicken at Nam Heong is boiled to tender perfection. They also offer 1Pax Set Meal that includes rice, vegetables and your choice of meats for a quick convenient lunch.
Both BBQ Pork (Char Siew) and Crispy Roast Pork (Siew Yok) at Nam Heong are equally nice too with reasonable good portion to satisfy your hunger deliciously.
New dishes were added into their menu also to delights of the customers. Nam Heong Chicken Rice offers a wide variety of dishes, like their nutritious Healthy Herbal Soups (Chicken Feet with Groundnuts Soup, Lotus Root Soup, and Pork Ribs with Old Cucumber Soup) and the popular Asam Fish (RM8) that will surely leave your senses craving for more.
Ordered this as side dish while I had my chicken rice lunch. I can finish 2 bowls of rice with only this Spicy Mixed Vegetable (RM7.50 small; RM11 large), how about you?
Stealing my attention next deliciously is this flavourful Yam Pork (RM18) that requires a lot of works and long hours to cook it, resulting in a luscious and creamy mouthful in every bite.
Order some greens as well to go with your lunch for a complete meal. Nam Heong serves Lettuce or Seasonal Vegetable with Oyster Sauce, and my favourite crunchy Bean Sprout (RM7.50 small ; RM11 large).
Always on the forefront of meeting customer needs, Nam Heong Chicken Rice is stepping into an exciting new era that offers a fresh outlook and uncompromising standards steeped in an excellent service, innovative dishes and a pleasant dining environment. There is no better way to capture the nostalgia of eating Hainanese Chicken Rice the traditional way than to visit Nam Heong Restaurant. Do come early as it is always full house during the lunch peak hours.
