Thanks to the wonderful invitation, I recently went to Shang Palace at Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur for their special La Mian menu promotion from 25 September to 3 October 2018.
Guest Chef Wang Quan from Shangri-La Hotel Xi’an will be in Shang Palace showcasing an exclusive La Mian menu offering to the hotel guests and the public the opportunity to taste authentic local Shaanxi dishes.
Chef Wang Quan started his career at Bell Tower Hotel, Xi’an in 1989 studying Shaanxi local dishes as well as Cantonese and Sichuan cuisines. He worked his way up the ranks and became a service leader for the Chinese Kitchen in 1998. In the same year, Chef Wang moved on to work with Shangri-La Golden Flower Hotel, Xi’an, specializing in local dishes and preparing Dim Sum for functions and events until 2007. A year later, Chef Wang continued his culinary journey at Shangri-La Hotel, Xi’an as a Guest Service Leader at Yi Café Kitchen and he has been contributing to the success of the restaurant since then.
The La Mian menu consists of 8 specialty dishes from Xi’an, including :

* Sliced Noodles with Braised Lamb Gravy (RM160)
* Spicy BiangBiang Noodles (RM38)
* Dry Noodles with Tomato and Eggs (RM38)
* ShaanXi Style Handmade Noodles with Beef and Chili Oil (RM78)
* Lobster Sour Noodle Soup (RM252)
* Assorted Seafood Noodle Soup (RM68)
I am a fan of noodle dishes. These handmade noodles by Chef Wang were fresh and chewy in texture, simply slurpilicious! My personal favourite would be the Spicy BiangBiang Noodles, also known as “You Po Che Mian” in Chinese. The noodles, touted as one of the “8 strange wonders of Shaanxi” are described as being like a belt, owing to its thickness and length. It is often topped with lots of red hot peppers for the cold winter in Shaanxi.
Shang Palace opens for lunch between Monday to Saturday at 12 pm – 2:30 pm. Lunch on Sundays and during Public Holidays will start from 10:30 am – 2:30 pm.
