Thanks to the wonderful invitation, I recently went to Cicchetti di Zenzero, an Italian restaurant located at the Menara Ample West, Kuala Lumpur for their special dinner event highlighting different types of risotto dishes.

Organizers The Italian Trade Commission and The Italian Embassy of Kuala Lumpur are proud to introduce the guest chef, Alessandro Baiamonte, from the culinary school “Datini” of Prato, Tuscany, together with Prof. Giuseppe Schifano of the hotel school in Santa Cesarea Terme, to celebrate this Risotto Day event.

Different types of canape and small bites were served on the counter for guests to sample before entering the main dishes.

If you do not know what is risotto, it is a northern Italian rice dish that is cooked with broth until it reaches a creamy consistency. The broth can be derived from meat, fish or vegetables. Risotto is one of the most common ways of cooking rice in Italy, and generally the dish contains butter, onion, white wine or parmesan cheese.

We get to taste three varieties of risotto dishes during the dinner event in sampling form. This is risotto served cold with crispy vegetable salad and calamari, polpo, cozze e gamberi. Overall, the taste was lighter compared to the rest, a refreshing combination of various fresh ingredients.

Risotto with zafferano, funghi porcini secchi, mantecato con burro e parmigiano e burrata.

Risotto with cime di rape cream, served with fonduta di pecorino and guanciale croccante and red wine reduction. The balance of its ingredients and flavours made this dish crowned my personal favourite list that night.

Priced at RM80 nett per pax inclusive a glass of wine from Luretta Winery, Cicchetti di Zenzero was full house with guests came to support the Risotto Day event.

Luretta Winery is reputed as a first-class wine maker with a complete range of wines of unmistakable character. During the 90s, their wines gained national and international prestige, winning prizes in Italy, France, Switzerland, Belgium and United Kingdom. For those who are interested, you can purchase Luretta wines at LURETTA D.O.P. Italian Deli (1 Utama Shopping Center) and D.O.P. Italian Concept @ THE ATTIC BAR (Travel Hub Guesthouse).

It was truly a night with lots of enjoyment, where I get to meet some new friends, and tasting the flavours of Italian fusion, a reinterpretations combining risotto dish with many ingredients commonly used in Malaysia and the Asian region.
