Thanks for the wonderful invitation, I recently went to The Square at Jaya One to check out Tommy Thongchai, a Thai fusion restaurant and bar that is quite happening around Petaling Jaya.
A simple but refreshing dish Yum Som-O Thai Pomelo Salad (RM26) that comes with a mixture of different flavours – hot, sour, salty, and sweet. The authenticity of its taste had transported me back to Bangkok when I visited the city few years ago. It is really a good appetizer!
Perfect to go with a glass of chilled beer, these Grilled Skewers are nicely done with good flavours, including Black Angus Ribeye (RM19), Australian Beef Tongue (RM12), Australian Lamb Shoulder (RM11), Thai Herb Pork Ball (Laarb Moo Tod RM5), Pork Intestine (RM5), Pork Belly (RM5), and Thai Pork Collar (Moo Ping RM5).
Pork Trotter Rice (RM21) is the quintessential Thai street food. For pork lovers, do not miss out Tommy Thongchai’s version of Kha Moo set that features braised pork trotter Thai style, Kai Lan veggie, Hanjuku egg, and a bowl of warm Thai jasmine rice.
This Krapao Pork Burger (RM28) is something unique to me, as the chef at Tommy Thongchai turns a classic Thai basil leaf dish into juicy krapao pork patty, and served it together with fried egg and Thongchai’s fries at side.
Committed to deliver surprises for its patrons, chefs at Tommy Thongchai came up with few innovative pasta creations that incorporated the Thai flavours, such as Chiang Mai Sausage Spaghetti, Pad Cha Spaghetti, and the one we tried Tom Yum Bolognese Spaghetti (RM23) that consists of Tom Yum pork ragout and homemade meat balls.
You can never go wrong with the Tommy’s Platter (RM85) if you are dining in a group. A mouth-watering assortment of fried calamari, fried pork belly, fried pork riblets, Chiang Mai sausage, pulled pork fries, Thongchai’s nachos, luncheon meat fries, and moo ping skewers, there is something for everyone to satisfy your hunger.
Their delicious foods pair well with great tasting drinks all done with a Thai twist. The extensive list of alcoholic drinks at Tommy Thongchai means there is something for everyone. From the hand-crafted cocktails, Thai and artisan liquor, premium wine selection and beer, you will surely be satisfied.
I like the interesting presentation of this Thai inspired cocktail, Thong Khao, which consists of mango juice, lime, cinnamon, star anise, Mekhong rum, Sambuca, and Angostura bitters.
The ambiance and service are perfect for any social and dining events. If you are looking to hang out with friends, celebrate an occasion, or just laid back to unwind, Tommy Thongchai is the place to be for a nice Thai drinking experience.
