Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel was thrilled to showcase their Festival Menus at Sagano Japanese Restaurant and Dynasty Restaurant (non-halal) in conjunction with the Malaysia International Gourmet Festival 2014.

Themed ‘Red Hot Chefs’ this year, their RED HOT culinary talents – Executive Sous Chef Kok Chee Kin at Dynasty will present a beautifully crafted 4-course Cantonese fare while Chef de Cuisine Michael Koh at Sagano will serve a flavorsome 4-course Japanese cuisine that will captivate your senses throughout October!

*****

Chef de Cuisine Michael Koh who is a brand new addition to the Japanese kitchen brings a wealth of experience to Sagano, having worked in an extensive range of renowned hotels and exotic vacation destinations such as Maldives, Papua New Guinea and Bali.

Drawing from his encounters with the variety of cultures and food in faraway destinations has inspired him to add a pleasingly contemporary twist on his Japanese dishes. Using both local and imported ingredients, Chef Michael emphasizes on the simplicity of the dishes to produce exquisite flavors and textures. Together with his culinary team, Sagano has lined up a tantalizing Festival Menu that is sure to tickle the palate.

First dish, the Cold Impressive appetizer, with rolled salmon sashimi canapé placed artistically on the cold al-dente Inaniwa udon with savory juice popping ikura. Love the presentation so much, as if a picture with hidden message telling the story about how importance the fresh ingredients are to a fine Japanese cuisine, a pleasant opening to begin savored the MIGF 2014 Festival Menu at Sagano.

A medley of different flavors and textures, this Hot Delicacies appetizer exquisitely featured a grilled Live Tiger Prawn, deep fried cripsy Capelin Fish Tempura, Chicken Jibuni Style and BBQ Mackerel with creamy fish roe fully covered on top. Each creation came with its own distinctive taste, but overall blended quite well as another memorable dish.

*****

A satisfaction-guaranteed seafood soup, the clear dashi broth had really accentuated the natural sweetness of Hokkaido scallop and seabass, a heart-warming dish focus at the freshness of ingredients used.

*****

I was truly spoiled by this marvelous seafood main, chef grilled the lobster with home-made cream gratin accompanied with grilled marinated cod fish with Japanese miso, the flavors were so delightful that it will surely put any discerning taste-bud of seafood lovers through a great food enjoyment!

*****

Love the texture contrast of this exquisite pairing, chef rolled the soft beancurd in the flavorful pan seared Wagyu sirloin with own-mixed savory moromiso sauce, which easily accentuated the sweetness of the premium beef.

*****

A wonderful medley of taste and texture, chef wrapped the fragrant tasty mushroom rice in egg with honey teriyaki glaze and added a touch of class to this dish by placing the mouth-watering unagi on top.

*****

Dessert was finally served to complete this wonderful MIGF gastronomic experience at Sagano, a sweet with hint of earthy tone creamy green tea ice cream paired with soft fluffy pancake and chewy mochi as well as refreshing mixed fruits, my enjoyable dessert featuring Japanese elements in it.
