Thanks to the wonderful invitation, I recently get to sample some appetizing French Cuisine at Rendez-Vous, a traditional French restaurant and bar that situated just a few steps from Telawi streets in Bangsar.

Furnished with simple decor and wooden furniture, Rendez-Vous offers diners a relaxing dining environment together with affordable authentic French cuisine.

For convenience, we chose the RM89 Set Menu, which included starter, main course, cheese platter and dessert.

I had the escargots while my partner chose the pate as starter to kick start our dinner with. To satisfy Malaysian’s generally strong taste buds, chef tweaked the reblochon (a soft French cheese made originally in Savoy) sauce recipe to more savory and fragrant with garlic and butter, complemented nicely with my bite-sized chewy escargots.

A common food in French cuisine, pate is a mixture of cooked ground meat and fat minced into a spreadable paste. I don’t really know how to enjoy the pate, but i quite like this mixture of rabbit and deer pate that had a firmer texture. I had it together with the caramelized onion for some sweetness to cover the pate’s taste that is not to my fancy.

Diners can choose one from the 4 delicious main courses, including Grilled Lamb Skewer, Quails with White Wine Sauce, Salted Cod Fish Brandade and Thick Cut Salmon Fillet.

There was just something so addictively good about this grilled lamb skewer in Béarnaise sauce! Served together with healthy garlic mayo spinach, juicy tomato and baked potato at side, this remarkably flavorsome skewer combined tender lamb meat, savory bacon and crunchy capsicum, double thumbs up!

Now, this was an interesting dish for me to try. With a smooth and creamy puree-alike texture, this Nimes-styled dish requires few steps to prepare. Chef needs to desalting the salted cod fish for long hours, then cook it before debone the fish to make the brandade together with potatoes and fresh herbs.

Brillat-Savarin once commented, a meal without cheese is a beautiful woman with an eye missing, this shows how the French today feel about cheese in their diet. Cheese will usually serve before the dessert in French cuisine, don’t ask me why because it is their dining etiquette.

My creamy smooth vanilla crème brulee was just nice without overwhelming sweet, but the portion was slightly generous for my petite stomach, especially after all the wonderful dishes.

Fluffy meringue on top of sweet vanilla custard, a heavenly sweet end to a night of good food without burning a hole in the pocket.

Nice to see they have expanded to the Bangsar area, it used to be one of those cheap “Western” restaurant we go to when it was based near the Kampung Pandan Roundabout. Or is this a different restaurant all together even though they share the same name?

Reminds me of an “atas” French restaurant in Ipoh. Been meaning to try it out but still haven’t arranged my time yet.
