Thanks for the wonderful invitation, I recently went to Village Grocer SS15 Courtyard to learn some baking tips from Chef May Foo on how to create the world’s best cheese tart by using the finest dairy ingredients from New Zealand.
Chef May Foo is a very well-trained pastry chef used to work for Taylor’s University. Trained by award winning international pastry chefs during her tenure of employment with food service industry, she never felt tired of inventing new recipes.
“When we were putting together the recipe for the tarts, we looked at ingredients from all around the globe, and settled on a dairy-rich, cheese-based cake using New Zealand dairy,” says Chef Foo, who is now leading the Village Grocer pastry division.
“We choose to work with the New Zealand produce, which includes Anchor butter, cream and cream cheese because we wanted something rich, but also healthy – we liked the fact that the creaminess comes from happy grass-fed cows and that there is high protein, as well as that the ingredients are fully traceable,” added Chef Foo.
Look at the soft flowing cream cheese filling, it tastes so good together with the light and crumbly tart pastry.
These creamy lava creations are selling now at Village Grocer. Ranging from only RM3.50 per piece, customers can try all the four new flavours – Original, Golden Lava (salted egg yolk), Matcha and Tiramisu, which use fully traceable ingredients from New Zealand.
Baked fresh daily to deliver the best eating experience to customers, Chef Foo makes these bite-sized tarts mainly with Anchor cream cheese and parmesan cheese as the filling. It can be served warm, chilled or frozen.
As a launch special, cheese tart lovers get 1 free tart for every 5 tarts purchased. A box of 6 tarts cost only RM15. This promotion is available at all Village Grocer outlets (www.villagegrocer.com.my), a full-fledged chain of premium grocers across the Klang Valley.

Keeping to the New Zealand theme, shoppers can also buy the Anchor dairy products at Village Grocer and bake your own favourite tarts such as Jazz Apple Frangipane Tart and Pic’s Nutty Whittakers Tart with New Zealand apples, Pic’s peanut butter and Whittaker’s Dark Ghana chocolates.
