Thanks to the wonderful invitation, I recently went to Em by Tedboy to sample some of their Mediterranean dishes that come with a dash of Asian flavors.

Located inside Hotel Transit along the busy street of Pudu Kuala Lumpur, Em by Tedboy is the sister of Tedboy Bakery, Bangsar. Following her brother’s footsteps, Em is created with Mathilda in mind, hence simple, wholesome food and delicious sweets are the core of Em’s identity.

*****

em by tedboy hotel transit jalan pudu kuala lumpur asian tabbouleh

Em is set to capture the hearts of travellers, explorers and locals alike bringing together the best food locally and abroad in their ever-growing menu. Served on a bed of romaine lettuce, this Asian Tabbouleh (RM22) is a fun concoction of couscous, fresh herbs, egg wedges, dried shrimps and salted fish. Give it a good toss before savouring this light refreshing dish.

*****

Em’s menu is predominantly Mediterranean influenced, with a reference dish from countries surrounding the Mediterranean sea. Served with couscous and garnished with coriander, chef slow-cooked the Moroccan Lamb Tajine (RM26) till tenderly soft. I like how the almonds and sweetness of prunes give this lamb shoulder a contrast in texture as well as flavors that are sure to leave your senses craving for more!

*****

A small surprise from South East Asia, I found these Indochina Beef Ragout (RM25) and Big Pho Ga (RM18) simply captivating with Em’s own style of taste.

A French inspired Vietnamese beef stew, chef slowly braised the meat with carrots and sweet potatoes till tenderly perfect, then sprinkled some fried shallots on top to enhance the fragrant. Warm fragrant steamed rice is served at side to goes with the rich flavorful gravy.

Served in a delicious hot clear broth, chef prepared this Vietnamese rice noodles with chicken and bean sprouts, then sprinkled with spring onions, chilli, cilantro and basil to further enhance its flavor. Sweet sourish fish sauce was offered separately so that you can adjust the taste according to your taste buds or mood.

At Em, you can travel the world through their delightful dishes passionately prepared by the skillful chefs. Trust me, this colorful Matador in Kyoto (RM30) is definitely worth to wait for 20 minutes for preparation. A Valencian paella that’s made with Japanese grain rice, mussels, calamari, prawns, edamame beans, tomatoes, capsicum and spices; garnished with nori strips and served with a lemon wedge.

*****

Lighter in texture compared to others, this classic Silky Carbonara (RM19) was served together with egg, crispy turkey ham and cheese. Silky but not scrambled, it was just nice for my own liking.

*****

For fish lovers, this Salmon Salsa (RM30) will not be disappointed with the generous portion served. Pan-seared Norwegian salmon on a bed of potato mash, homemade salsa and oven-baked cherry tomatoes, such a hearty wholesome dish for me.

*****

Those with a craving for salmon will surely love this delightful Smokin’ Salmon Pizza (RM26). Served on a thin crust pizza base with slices of smoked salmon, cream sauce and mozzarella, every bite was so satisfy in luscious creaminess.

We ended our wonderful lunch at Em with this Creme Caramel (RM12), a flan dessert with a layer of soft caramel on top and garnished with raspberry coulis.

Come over, sit back and let the busy KL streets fade into the background as you take a break over a meal or a cup of drink at the relaxing Em.  Hotel Transit has easy access to public and hired transport, with main transport hubs nearby including :

* Pudu Sentral UTC (2 minutes walk)
* LRT Plaza Rakyat (5 minutes walk)
* Hang Tuah Monorail Station (3 minutes by LRT)
