Thanks to the wonderful invitation, I recently went to EkoCheras Mall for the new outlets opening ceremony of The Champignons Cake Shop and Taste by Champignons, which are located side by side at Ground Floor.
The Champignons Cake Shop is a new endeavour by Chef Gary Chang and Pastry Chef Kingsley Kwoh who shares the passion of merging art with taste. They both originate from award winning fine French dining establishments with the dream of making an impact on the landscape of the Malaysian dining scene.
In the past, the local dining scene sat on two extremes, of hawker food and fine dining, with very little in between. This new effort brings the fine artistry of French Patisserie to the masses by making it affordable and easily available by positioning themselves in retail centers.
Each cake is detailed and artistically created, it is so beautiful that it is almost too painful to eat. The burst of taste and sultry pull of sweetness makes you wonder if you should order a second piece. Definitely a goto place for desserts and sweets to impress friends and family.

Vanilla Napoleon : Layered Puff Pastry with Vanilla Madagascar French Pastry Cream
Rosy : Black Tea Whipping Ganache, Raspberry Confit and Raspberry, Genoise Sponge and Biscuit
Cherry : Dark Chocolate Mouse, Chantilly Cream, Cherry Compote, Chocolate Sponge, Crunchy Base and Biscuit
Chef Kingsley’s passion for baking came from his mother who was an avid home baker. Encouraged at a tender young age, Kingsley eventually made it his career specializing in Modern French Patisserie. He went under the tutelage of French Pastry Chef Sebastien Bernis, at the renowned cake shop in the Luxury 5-Star Mandarin Oriental Hotel Macau. Chef Kingsley loves to incorporate art into his creations and strongly believes that appearance is just as important as taste.
Taste by Champignons is a new endeavour by Chef Gary Chang, the winner of the Malaysian International Gastronomy Festival 2018. Chef Gary intends to make an impact on the landscape of the Malaysian dining scene by making fine French dining affordable to the masses.
“Taste by Champignons is a lifestyle, it offers a nice environment to chill and relax, a casual place to meet friends and enjoy good food and fantastic cakes over coffee or any beverage of your choice, at reasonable rates,” explained Chef Gary.
This is the new movement in the local dining scene in Malaysia. The combined offering of Taste by Champignons and The Champignons Cake Shop results in a formidable F&B venue only contested by the very best premier restaurants in the Klang Valley.
