Thanks to the wonderful invitation, I had the pleasure recently to sample the 7-course menu at modern gastronomy restaurant MARCO Creative Cuisine, hand-crafted by chef-owner Daren Leong using fresh artisan produce at very affordable price.

Located inside 1 Utama Shopping Centre (old wing, ground floor), the 62-seater restaurant provides an elegant, sleek and intimate dining environment with soothing contemporary pastel blue and simplicity white look.

There is a calming aquarium of jellyfish swaying gently in water just in front of the restaurant, as Chef Daren wants to offer a pause for hectic lifestyle and MARCO is a calming oasis in the midst of a busy mall.

Priced at RM78 per pax, diners are served with The Journey of Flavours Multi-course Meal, where you can choose your Soup, Entree, Main, Dessert and Drink. From the selection of ingredients, preparation, cooking to food presentation, each dish at MARCO is created with knowledge and care. Every dish is made from scratch, right from making stock and butchering poultry in-house.

Before embarking on our unforgettable culinary journey, we had the chilled Velvety Matcha-lime Shooter Foam as refreshing palate cleanser to get our taste buds ready for array of exquisite dishes.

Beautiful appetiser Savoury Eclair, a Gruyere Flavoured Pate a Choux decorated with Aubergine Caviar, Green Chile Pesto and Tomato Confit.
“I was fascinated by how memory and personal experiences influence the way we taste food. That was how a multi-course meal, with its avenue for variety, became the key concept behind our menu. A meal is an experience and a journey of discovery in flavours, much like how our different experiences make up our own personal journeys,” explained Chef Daren.

A master at bringing together contrasting tastes and textures to create full bodied dishes, diners have three soup options to choose from, the French Onion Soup with French toast, chilled cold soup Strawberry Gazpacho, or my favourite creamy Truffled Mushroom Soup.

Garden Plater served as the entree, fresh mixed greens planted on top of Edible Soil and Gribiche, a French tartar sauce.
“When you come for a meal at MARCO, you will be treated to a myriad of flavours and textures that will engage all the senses. This experiential journey is our interpretation of creative cuisine, using the freshest produce and the freshest ideas. It is a complete meal that ends on a sweet note and all at an attractive price,” Chef Daren elaborated on the philosophy behind the menu.

Looks like the price tag is also “calming”. Would love to dine here one day when I am in KL.
