Thanks for the wonderful invitation, I recently went to Cheras LeisureMall for their launching event of ‘Mid-Autumn Garden of Paradise‘, where the overall mall décor is inspired by the Jade Rabbit, an important folklore character of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

The display of rabbit lanterns has transformed Cheras LeisureMall into a bunny haven until 15 September 2019! It is made possible by the hundreds of lanterns created by participants of the lantern-making competitions, “Creative Lantern Art Contest” and “Jade Rabbit Creative Lantern-making Contest”. Organised by Cheras LeisureMall, these annual events have received enthusiastic response from the public throughout the years, and this time round, a total of RM96,000 worth of prizes are up for grabs!

The Creative Lantern Art Contest, which took place at the mall concourse during the contest period from June to July 2019, saw a participation of more than 700 participants aged between 6 and 18. The participants included students from the participating schools as well as members of the public. Winners will stand a chance to win Cheras LeisureMall cash vouchers worth up to RM46,000.

These beautiful lanterns crafted by the participants will be hung around the main concourse to create a gorgeous sea of lights, further accentuating the Mid-Autumn mood! Besides that, shoppers may also head over to the Information Counter to cast a vote on their favourite lantern creation submitted by the Creative Lantern Art Contest participants to help it win the People’s Choice Award.

With the aim of preserving traditional heritages, Cheras LeisureMall has been continuously organising lantern-making competitions since the 1990s. Kudos to the their effort to educate and pass on this time-honoured Chinese traditional handicraft to the future generation as lantern-making actually requires great skill and craftsmanship.
