Feast your eyes on unique festive decor at Intermark Mall where ‘Artistry of Diwali’ features a spectacular kolam. Embracing festive Deepavali spirit, International Coffee Month of October and a message of sustainability, the mall’s unique kolam enters the Malaysia Book of Records for ‘Biggest Peacock Replica Kolam Made Of Coffee Grounds’.
The centre piece features a beautiful sculpted peacock made entirely from re-purposed materials, including used coffee grounds and coffee bags. Collaborating with UiTM Faculty of Art & Design and Coffee2Fuels, an enterprise dedicated to re-imagining waste, Intermark Mall’s kolam and peacock took 9 weeks to complete by 59 committed students.
The process involved bleaching and dyeing the coffee grounds, as well as sorting, painting and stitching used coffee bags together with recycled gunny sacks to create the bird’s magnificent feathered tail. In its Deepavali celebrations last year, Intermark Mall’s festive décor featured a kolam made entirely from recycled fabric.
