Damansara Jaya’s newest dining outlet spices up Petaling Jaya

Oriental Thai Cuisine takes over Petaling Jaya recently with the launch of Golden Orchid Restaurant in the suburbs of Damansara Jaya. With the opening of the restaurant, residents of the area can enjoy Fusion Thai cuisine from flavourful soups such as zesty Seafood Tom Yam, to the absolute must have Green Papaya Salad, in the relaxing and cozy outlet of dark wood and rich coloured art pieces.

Founded by self-confessed foodies Joey Ban and her business partner, Ada Foo, Golden Orchid boasts a team of dedicated Thai chefs bustling around the restaurant’s kitchen, whipping up sizzling and savoury delicacies that range from appetizers to desserts the likes of smoky Pandan Leaf wrapped Chicken (Gei Ob Bai Toey), tangy de-boned Chicken Feet Salad (Yum Lab Meau Nang) in fish sauce, lemon juice, chili padi and coriander leaves and the highly-recommended Kembong Fish Platter served with a special home made blend of Nam Prik sauce which is sure to fire up your meal!

“Ada and I used to work together and we realised that we would go absolutely anywhere for good food! This led to the idea of opening a restaurant serving a fusion of our favourite Thai and local dishes.” said Ban.

“We really do believe that one of the best ways to de-stress and enjoy life, is the well-known combination of good food and good company. Here at Golden Orchid, let us take charge of serving you good food. You just need to take care of bringing good company!” added Foo.

And whilst the chefs are busy masterminding the secret dishes responsible for the heavenly scents of mouthwatering Thai cuisine, the friendly local wait staff are always on hand to make your experience a memorable one. Be sure to order a tall glass of refreshing Chilled Lemongrass and balance out the delicious meal with the all-time favourite sweet desserts such as Mango Sticky Rice or Red Ruby.

An absolute must try for those who wish to enjoy the fusion mix by the chefs, is the Thai styled BBQ Seafood and Lamb Platter, which comes served with spicy home made green chilli sauce. Special set lunches featuring 3 dishes of the day are also available every Monday to Friday starting from RM9.90, inclusive of the restaurant’s signature lemongrass drink and dessert.

Spanning over 3000 square feet with three private corners to accommodate dining groups, the restaurant can accommodate up to 100 diners as per the standard outlet set up and up to 120 guests for a private party that made available through exclusive booking of the outlet.

Golden Orchid BBQ Combo Platter with Thai-styled BBQ seafood & lamb. The homemade green chili sauce tasted awesome to me, spicy hot with sourish, goes very well with the grilled foods.

Thai Style Omelette, pan-fried till golden brown with fluffy texture and crispy edges.

One of the must-order dishes in Thai cuisine, the Sambal Kangkung, which chef stir fried it nicely till got ‘wok hei’.

Being highlight of the dinner, I like this Pataya Fish very much. Chef deep fried the fish and topped it with awesome flavorful mango salad. Sourish with a hint of spiciness, the sauce definitely made you go bite after bite!

Refreshing Green Papaya Salad with raw green papaya and chef’s special sweet and sour dressing with chili padi. Simple dish yet very addictive with its light sourish taste.

To me, a nice Tom Yam Soup should be well-balanced between the spicy and sourish taste, and Golden Orchid serves one of the best flavorful Tom Yam I tried before, enough ‘kick’!

Green Curry Seafood with coconut based gravy which thick enough for me and the nice fragrance of basil leaves added inside too. With the gravy, it made me ate half more bowl of white rice.

Minced Chicken with Basil, another delicious ‘devil’ that encourage me to go for another bowl of white rice.

After all the heavy taste of foods, diners must get the classic signature Red Ruby Chestnut in refreshing cold coconut milk and served with slices of natural sweet jackfruit.
