Thanks to the wonderful invitation, I recently went to Cheras LeisureMall and had a memorable Christmas celebration together with over 400 children from 13 children’s homes and charity houses through the mall’s annual community programme – Toy Bank, A Gift of Love.

‘Toy Bank’ is an annual CSR initiative in line with PPB Group Berhad’s core value to contribute and engage with the communities, and with society at large. A community initiative to connect people to areas of need in society, the project has since its inception in 1999 brightened up smiles of over 3000 underprivileged children. To date, there are approximately 80 homes have been the beneficiaries this programme. In 2014, more than 2,000 gifts were collected fulfilling wishes of over 400 children from 12 homes.

“Since its inception in 1999, Toy Bank, A Gift of Love programme has become an anticipated event for the shoppers to express their care and concern for the underprivileged children,” said Ms Eva Hew, Assistant General Manager of Marketing and Promotion (Retail), Property Division in PPB Group Berhad.

“Thanks to the shoppers, well-wishes and members of the public for their generous support towards the Toy Bank programme, we have managed to collect around 2,700 gifts throughout the programme period from 4till 27 December 2015. Apart from the gifts prepared according to the children’s wish lists, shoppers also donated household necessity items such as rice, cooking oil, toiletries and more,” added Eva Hew.

The participating children’s homes and charity houses of this year’s Toy Bank, A Gift of Love programme include Shepherd’s Centre Foundation, Trinity Community Children’s Home, Persatuan Kebajikan Warga Tua Dan Kanak-Kanak WP, Pusat Jagaan Beribuan Kasih, Kajang, Bodhi Homecare Cheras, San Pedro Orphanage Home, Rumah Sayangan, Rumah Kanak Kanak Angels, Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Cornerstone, Yayasan Sunbeams Home, Rainbow Home, Rumah Bakti Nur Syaheera and Pusat Majudiri Y for the Deaf.

Children received gifts sent by the anonymous true love at the gift presentation ceremony.

The children had an enjoyable day out with a line-up of interesting activities such as a special movie screening by Golden Screen Cinemas – Legend of a Rabbit: The Martial of Fire, delicious lunch, caroling performance, dance performances and Hoverboard dance workshop.

A giant Toy Bank has been set up at the Ground Floor Concourse since 4 December 2015 to collect gifts of love for the children from the participating children’s homes and charity houses.

Colourful wish cards bearing three of the children’s Christmas wishes were displayed at the wishing trees around the giant Toy Bank. To be part of this meaningful cause, willing parties can first pick a card from the wishing tree, select a toy or gift from child’s wish list and then deposit the gift together with the wish card at the Toy Bank.
