Thanks to the wonderful invitation, I recently went to the launching event of NEST, a revolutionary F&B and Coworking Fusion concept by Trade.io and The GreatFUN Group at The Curve, Mutiara Damansara.

A first of its kind, this unique F&B and Coworking Fusion concept is not found anywhere else in Malaysia. NEST is the brainchild of 2 organisations, The GreatFUN Group with its 30-year F&B experience, having launched hundreds of successful food chains in the region, and Trade.io who offer the link to the fintech and financial world to open NEST to attractive business growth possibilities.

With the growing number of coworking spaces available, value-add amenities are key to influencing one’s choice of a coworking space. A recent survey by DeskMag, a magazine covering coworking news, revealed that 81 percent of coworkers regard the presence of snack bars and restaurant as highly important while two thirds want a supermarket within the vicinity of the coworking space. This supports the notion that coworkers’ expectations have evolved beyond just having a space to operate from.

Living out its tagline, ‘Whatever You Do, Do It Here’, NEST is designed to function as a one-stop coworking space for work, meet, speak, eat, drink and chill. It presents 2 service categories, ‘work@nest’ and ‘eat@nest’.

‘work@nest’ offers a variety of affordable choices from daily passes (RM30) to monthly rented spaces. Coworkers can opt for hot desks (RM300 per month), fixed desks (RM600 per month) and private suites (RM1,200 per month) while meeting rooms and event space are charged on an hourly basis, ranging from RM60 per hour, depending on the size of each space.
You can enjoy the facility and comprehensive amenities here such as fast internet, front desk service, IT support, unique common areas, daily cleaning, mail and package handling and office supplies. This allows coworkers to concentrate on their work and business and leave the office management tasks to NEST.

It caters to workers and entrepreneurs who want a space beyond a traditional office, working out-of-home freelancers, homepreneurs, brick & mortar entrepreneurs, remote corporate workers and business travelers.

Mr. Tan Tian Jing, Executive Director of The GreatFUN Group said, “NEST is derived from the German and Latin root word, nidus. Building on this, our goal is having NEST function as a place to bring people together to exchange ideas and experiences. Incorporating F&B into the coworking concept complements this objective. Not only does it blend the work habits of Malaysians where luncheon meetings are quite a norm, we all know that food is an integral part of local lifestyle. It is doubly convenient to now have access to such a wide selection within a matter of a few steps from your work desk. If you prefer, it can even be brought to your desk.”

Meanwhile, ‘eat@nest’ houses 5 different F&B brands. These restaurants can be accessed anytime by both coworkers and members of the public.

* Gajah serves affordable and authentic Southeast Asian cuisines comprising Indonesian, Thai and Malaysian food.
* Pizzazone offers some of Italy’s staple dishes with some pizzas reinvented with local flavours. * Quick Fix Coffee Bar is the quick service section that serves freshly brewed coffee, an array of sandwiches, muffins and ready-made snacks for customers who are looking for quick, on-the-go meals.
* The Quickie Bar serves alcoholic drinks, perfect to network and unwind.
* Tail & Fin is a Las Vegas-born fast-casual Japanese fusion restaurant that offers trendy poke bowls, sushi burritos and other delightful dishes.
As an added benefit, 30% of the total subscription fee of rented spaces is converted to food credits to be utilised at any of NEST’s F&B brands.

Locating NEST within a shopping mall with the first at The Curve avails coworkers easy access to daily conveniences such as supermarkets, day care, gym and many more. Also, coworkers will have be able to keep the transportation cost to the minimum with direct access to MRT stations and inexpensive parking. The available area surrounding the event space presents an opportunity for expansion into more private suites to meet future demand. NEST’s second coworking space at MyTown in Kuala Lumpur opens in April with more in the pipeline.
