Known historically as one of Kuala Lumpur’s finest, most popular Chinese restaurants, Golden Phoenix makes a reappearance each Lunar New Year as a pop-up at the award-winning EQ.

This year the pop-up restaurant will operate on Level 1 from 29 January to 24 February 2024, serving both lunch and dinner. Items from the set and ala carte menus will draw from a treasury of recipes going back 50 years, and will also feature exciting new dishes designed for the modern gourmet.

A total of 7 Set Menus have been designed for the celebrations. These range from RM198+ to RM888+ per person, with the special vegetarian ‘Yan Yat’ set, designed for the seventh day of the Lunar New Year priced at RM188+ per person. A minimum of four persons is required for all set menus.

‘Yan Yat’ Seventh Day Set (RM188+ per person)
* Rainbow mixed fruit, vegetable yee sang
* Braised seven treasure vegetables, morel mushrooms
* Braised golden money bags, cabbage rolls
* Sweet and sour vegetarian fish, pepper, pineapple, pine nuts
* Longevity e-fu noodles, fungus, pickled lettuce
* Sweetened ginger tea, glutinous rice dumpling and rice cake

Golden Phoenix will offer 6 variants of Yee Sang, ranging from Korean snow pear yee sang (RM108+ for 4-6 persons, RM208+ for 8-10 persons) to the premium Australian lobster yee sang with fish roe (RM488+ for 4-6 persons, RM888+ for 8-10 persons).

The Boston lobster yee sang with fish roe is RM338+ for 4-6 persons, and RM688+ for 8-10 persons. The Alaska crab with Hokkaido scallops yee sang for 4-6 persons is priced at RM228+, while the 8-10 persons serving is RM448+.

The crispy white bait and soft-shell crab yee sang (RM168+ or RM328+) is perfect for those with a preference for extra crunch in their yee sang, while the classic smoked salmon with jelly fish yee sang is priced at RM128+ and RM248+ for 4-6 persons, and 8-10 persons respectively.

Tradition meets luxury in Golden Phoenix’s ala carte offerings, with an extravagant Poon Choy (casserole) dish being one of the stars of the season. Comprising ten-head abalone, Japanese dried scallops, tiger prawns, smoked duck, steamed chicken, sea moss, dried oysters, baby cabbage, mushrooms, white radish, gluten, oyster mushrooms, yam and money bags, this dish symbolises largesse or abundance. Priced at RM588+, each portion serves up to six persons.

Duck, which is a firm favourite, is served two ways at Golden Phoenix, with the perfectly crisped skin served in crepes, and the balance of the meat prepared in one of three choices – sautéed with spring onions and ginger, wok-fried with assorted vegetables, or in fried rice or fried noodles. Each bird is priced at RM288+.

Among the long list of other tantalising New Year offerings are Golden Phoenix signature dishes including braised sun-dried oyster with ten-head abalone, sea moss, flower mushroom and broccoli (RM68+ per person), baked Boston lobster with dried scallops and shimeji (RM138 per 100 gram), braised tofu with turbot and mustard vegetable (RM48+ for medium portion, RM96+ for large portion), and the Golden Phoenix crispy e-fu noodles with seafood (RM93+ for medium portion, RM188+ for large portion).
