Hard Rock Cafe Melaka Unveils Rare “Treasures”

World Renowned Rock Memorabilia Tour Held in Malaysia for the First Time

Hard Rock Cafe Melaka unveiled the “Treasures of the Hard Rock” today at an exclusive event in conjunction with the ‘50 Years of Rock & Pop Fashion Tour’. This show is part of a global tour which will show off some of the most incredible fashion memorabilia worn by some of the most incredible musicians and artists over the last 50 years.

The tour will open its doors to fans for viewing from 1 to 7 June 2013. It will feature the pink waitress uniform worn by Britney Spears in her “(You Drive Me) Crazy” music video and Johnny Cash’s all-black suit which perfectly represents his legacy as the “Man In Black”. Also featured in the collection is Lady Gaga’s The Addams Family-inspired dress designed by Belgian designer, Toon Geboers, and the jacket worn by Ron Wood during his 60th birthday party in 2007.

Hard Rock Cafe Melaka General Manager, Anderson Kandiah said, “We are delighted to present the memorabilia to Hard Rock fans for the first time in Malaysia. The collection showcases its role in creating an impact for the artists with their music on the international scene, and fans will have the opportunity of viewing it up close”.

“Treasures of the Hard Rock” began its tour in Hamburg, Germany in April 2013, and has stopped along various cities worldwide including Surfers Paradise, Sydney and Singapore. After Melaka, the tour will continue its journey to cities such as Phuket, Bangkok, Macau, Osaka, Tokyo and many more.

Jeff Nolan, a Hard Rock historian and tour curator said, “Our team spent nearly two years, scouring our 77,000 pieces of memorabilia, to pull together a collection that will wow the fans. The collection showcases a unique part of music history and gives fans an opportunity to see that history first-hand”.

Visitors to Hard Rock Cafe Melaka will also be treated to over 90 sets of permanent memorabilia including a Fender Telecaster guitar played and signed by the legendary Bruce Springsteen in the 90s; a Ludwig snare drum used onstage by Alex Van Halen during Van Halen’s 2004 world tour; a stylish white dinner jacket worn by the genius of funk, soul, pop and rock, Prince; a jacket worn by will.i.am of Black Eyed Peas while he was out promoting his solo album Songs About Girls in 2007; Tom Petty’s suede jacket and Rickenbacker guitar; a vinyl suit worn onstage in the 90s by the outrageous Sir Elton John; and many more.

Hard Rock Cafe Melaka encompasses 1,372-square-metres, which includes seating capacity for 200 people, an upscale vibrant bar, a spacious outdoor dining area, a live entertainment space that features Melaka’s unique local music scene, and a Rock Shop. The cafe is a joint venture between the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah; Tan Sri Syed Yusof Syed Nasir; and HPL Ltd.

The Melaka cafe’s Rock Shop offers rock ‘n’ roll-inspired items, as well as collectible Hard Rock Cafe merchandise in its exclusive retail location. This Melaka-specific merchandise can only be purchased at the state, which offers an exclusive design quality that enhances each item’s appeal. Fans can also acquire Hard Rock’s much-coveted signature pins.
