Thanks to the wonderful invitation, I was at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur to celebrate the exhilarating return of Japan Expo Malaysia 2018 (JEMY 2018), an immersive 3-day (27 to 29 July 2018) All-Japan event gathering Japan’s iconic culture, music, anime, art, fashion, food, travel and live entertainment to the heart of Bukit Bintang.
Japan Expo Malaysia 2018 concluded the month-long ‘Dream Japan Festival’, a celebration of Pavilion KL’s much-loved, award-winning precinct Tokyo Street, in its 7th Anniversary. On the back of the success of the inaugural JEMY 2017, JEMY 2018 once again delighted shoppers with an even bolder, fresher and more exciting line up of Japanese celebrities, booths and exhibitions.
JEMY 2018 was officially launched by Mr. Hiroyuki Orikasa, Minister Counselor, Deputy Head of Mission to the Embassy of Japan in Malaysia, Ms. Yupharet Eakturapakal, President of G-Yu Creative, the organizer of JEMY 2018, and Dato’ Joyce Yap, CEO of Retail, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.
JEMY 2018 partners, Ms. Mai Onozawa, Managing Director, JETRO Kuala Lumpur, Mr. Horikawa Koichi, The JAPAN FOUNDATION Kuala Lumpur, Ms. Chiemi Maruyama, Japan National Tourism Organization, Mr. Mohd Akbal Setia, Director of Tourism Malaysia KL, Mr. Graham Lim, Vice President, Marketing, F&N Beverage Marketing Sdn Bhd, Mr. Barry Klipp, Group Head of Commercial, AirAsia X Berhad, Mr. Dennis Tan, Managing Director, Roland Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd, Ms. Tomomi Kobayashi, Executive Vice President, G-Yu Creative, Ms. Hunsa Eakturapakal, Director of Siam Connection Sdn Bhd were invited on stage for a group photo. Representatives from official bank partner Maybank and sponsor Sukiya also joined the stage with celebrity guests before a cake-cutting ceremony to commemorate the anniversary and a grand tour of the booths.
“We are very pleased to have been the host venue once again for Japan Expo Malaysia 2018. Presented as part of Visit Pavilion 2018, visitors were presented with new and exciting performances, experiences and flavours of Japan. ‘Tokyo Street’ is also celebrating its 7th Anniversary this year and it was definitely a Dream Celebration for all. Japan Expo Malaysia was a success last year but the high level of excitement and engagement we had this year for Japan Expo Malaysia 2018 ensured we achieved greater success,” said Kung Suan Ai, Director of Marketing, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.
“Japan Expo Malaysia brings together the best of Japanese culture – from quality products to the latest trends and unique foods, all under one roof for Malaysians to experience and feel. It’s the biggest event of its kind in Malaysia and it would certainly not have been possible without the invaluable support of our partners”, stated Yupharet Eakturapakal, President and Chief Executive Officer of G-Yu Creative, who also spoke at the event.
Pikotaro performanced “Can you see? I’m SUSHI”

I’m SUSHI”. Droves of fans jam-packed the Centre Court to see PIKOTARO perform live and meet-and-greet this energetic viral-hit Japanese star.
