Thanks to the wonderful invitation, I recently went to Champignon at Oasis Damansara to sample some of their mouth-watering signatures from the breakfast menu. Named after the French word for mushrooms that are so often used in western cuisine, Champignon serves contemporary European dishes featuring selected, fresh Asian ingredients and flavours.
Started operation in December 2017, this semi-fine dining restaurant is headed by one of the founders, Gary, a passionate foodie who has been in the hospitality industry for over 15 years. A KDU graduate, Gary has worked in hotels and restaurants in Switzerland, London, Dubai and Macau.
For egg benedict lovers, this appetizing dish can surely satisfy your palate! Smoked Streaky Bacon Egg Benedict (RM24), with English muffin, sauteed mushroom, and grilled tomato flavoured with creamy Hollandaise sauce.
Champignon’s version of Croque Madame, the Baked Ham and Cheese Sandwich (RM25). Using Gammon ham and Emmental cheese on Brioche toast topped with fried country egg, this classic French dish is nice to have at anytime especially if you like the aroma of cheese.
Beautiful Seaweed Tempura Soft Shell Crab Open Sandwich (RM26) that not just taste good, but also look so pleasing to the eyes. It was served with whole crunchy Soft Shell Crab on the Brioche toast with cocktail sauce, pickled red onions and dancing tobiko.
Not sure which dish to order? Well, you will never go wrong with Champignons Signature Big Breakfast (RM30) that serves 2 country eggs, black pudding, baked beans, grilled Roma tomato, streaky bacon, potato cake, homemade pork sausage and sauteed button mushrooms. “Our focus is on the quality of food, and we prepare almost all of the ingredients in-house. Led by a team of seasoned veterans who have explored cuisines from various corners of the world, including Switzerland, London, Dubai and Macau, we work hard to ensure that our food tastes excellent through sourcing the freshest ingredients, prepared carefully to bring out the best taste,” explained Chef Gary.
Champignons also serves Business Set Lunch between 11:30 am until 3 pm to cater to the hungry office crowd around Ara Damansara. Ranging from RM19 to RM28 per set that includes a starter and a beverage, diners are spoilt with delicious choices like Seafood Salad with Grape Fruit, Forest Mushroom Pizza, Smoked Chicken and Grilled Pineapple Pizza, Squid Ink Pasta with Market Seafood, Grilled Chicken Leg with Aglio Olio Spaghetti, Baked Halibut Fillet with Lemon, and the one I ordered Grilled Spanish Pork Shoulder Loin.
I had the Wild Mushroom Soup as my starter, thick and creamy just nice for my liking, accompanied with tempura oyster mushroom and mushroom bruschetta to enhance the overall tasting experience.
