Have you visited Don’s Warong that is located at Plaza Damas, Desa Sri Hartamas? If you are fans of Johor cuisine, come and try out Don’s Warong, a modern cozy warong that focuses on feel-good fare of all-time local favourites and irresistible western delights.

Thanks to the wonderful invitation, I recently went to Don’s Warong and sampled some of their mouth-watering signatures like Laksa Johor, Mee Rebus Johor, Nasi Goreng Kampung Muar, Pisang Goreng Johor, and not forgotten their not-to-be-missed Kopi Muar Ice Blended with Ice Cream (RM11.50), creamy texture with ‘kaw’ coffee taste, I like!

I found an interesting dish at Don’s Warong! A popular appetizer from Indonesia, this Tahu Telur Spesial (RM8.50) is a crispy tofu omelette garnished with thinly sliced cucumbers, carrots, bean sprouts, and crushed nuts for the extra bite texture. The sweet spicy sauce that comes together really complement well the dish, which only available at tea time from 3pm to 7pm.

Whether it is a cold rainy day or hot sunny day, their Sup Tulang DW (RM15) is sure to keep your tummy warm and heart comforted. A combination of spices, beef bones and meat, potatoes, carrots, cabbage and spring onions, this dish is one of Don’s Warong favourites, and I like it too for its less peppery taste. Served with fried garlic and spicy sambal kicap cili padi, which are a must, you can also order a plate of rice (additional RM1) to go with the flavourful Sup Tulang DW.

Need not much introduction, if you really have no idea what to order at Don’s Warong, just get their signature Mee Rebus Johor (RM12.50), a comfort noodle dish that enjoyed by many Johorians.

When it comes to variety of selections, diners are really spoilt for choice at Don’s Warong. Besides local delights, western food lovers can try out their tender chicken chops or burgers, especially The Don (RM19) that I ordered, a quarter pound beef patty burger served with buttered buns and special sauce. Topped with beef bacon slices, fried egg, lettuce, tomato, onion rings, and crispy fries at side, no wonder this chef recommended dish is one of the top favourites at Don’s Warong. You just got to taste it yourself to find out how good it is!

Malaysians are always on the search for refreshing desserts to cold down themselves especially during the sunny days. Topped with gula Melaka, rose syrup and chocolate sauce, this sweet icy Ais Kachang Johor (RM8) accompanied with lots of condiments that I like including corn, kidney beans, cendol, buah kabung, and roasted nuts, just perfect for the hot season now!

Need more reasons to nosh at Don’s Warong? How about this special Nasi Lemak Kukus Johor with tantalizing whole soft shell crab at only RM13.50?! Starting March 2018, you can enjoy your breakfast at Don’s Warong from 7:30 am onward to kick start your beautiful day with. There are also other choices like Ayam Goreng Berempah, Ayam Rendang, Ayam Masak Merah, Daging Rendang, Paru Goreng, Sambal Sotong, Udang Goreng Bawang and Udang Masak Merah to go with your Nasi Lemak Kukus Johor (RM7.50).

Besides normal meals like Roti Bakar Kaya, Half Boiled Eggs, Nasi Goreng, Mee Hoon Goreng, and Mee Goreng, I discovered Johor specialty Kacang Pol (RM5) on the breakfast menu, something interesting that I have not tried before. Served together with sliced of bread and a sunny-side-up egg, its creamy gravy with addictive taste will surely titillate your taste buds. I hope you are salivating already because I certainly am!
