During my recent media trip under Tourism Malaysia to experience myself the new norm in city travelling around the areas of Kuala Lumpur, we went to Baba Low for lunch and Pier 12 Seafood Tavern for dinner.
Both restaurants are operated at maximum capacity during the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) period with adherence to social distancing. SOP like temperature scanning and diner’s details recording are also carried out before we enter the premises.
Situated in Bangsar Utama, Kuala Lumpur, Baba Low Restaurant is bound to entice your taste buds with their authentic Malaccan Peranakan cuisine. It has a kopitiam style deco with vintage tiled floor and wooden stool, bringing diners back to colonial time with its retro nostalgia ambiance.
Dive into the rich Malaccan Peranakan cuisine with this bowl of Nyonya Laksa (RM9.50), a traditional noodle dish served in spicy gravy with a touch of coconut milk, as well as cucumber, bean sprouts, shrimp, cockles, fish balls and egg.
Definitely make one to crave for more, this Mee Goreng Nyonya (RM9.50) at Baba Low Restaurant is equally delicious with dark sauce fried noodles served with pineapple sambal belacan.
Pai Tee, Otak-Otak, Popiah Peranakan, and Tauhu Sumbat, these foods are good for appetizer as well as tea-time snack. We tried the Pai Tee (RM7.50), a traditional peranakan snack of crispy ‘Top Hat’ with turnip stuffing, egg strips and fried shallots. Best enjoyed with homemade vinegar chili dip (cili cuka).
Do not miss their shaved ice dessert Cendol (RM6.50) as Baba Low makes their own fragrant dark green pandan cendol. It is flavoured by fresh coconut milk and gula Melaka, simple yet so much satisfaction.
Located at Old Malaya along the Lorong Raja Chulan, Kuala Lumpur, Pier 12 Seafood Tavern specializes in various types of fish and seafood dishes boasting a combination of Eastern and Western flavors.
Serving together with refreshing yogurt cucumber raita, this pan-seared Tandoori Halibut Fillet is so yummy!!
The other choice of main course, Chicken Roulade, grilled chicken breast stuffed with spinach, roast potatoes and brown sauce.
For dessert, we had the Bread and Butter Pudding, a classic sweet treat in British cuisine consisting layers of buttered bread with egg custard mixture seasoned with spices.
Pier 12 Seafood Tavern opened their door to serve the diners again on 12th June 2020. The restaurant is following the standard operating procedure as advised by the government to ensure the safety of their customers and employees.
Open from Tuesday to Sunday 5-11 pm, the restaurant has limited seating arrangement now due to the RMCO period, hence prior reservations are encouraged to avoid any disappointment. Please call Pier 12 Seafood Tavern at 6011-2611 2460 for any enquiries or booking.
