Thanks for the wonderful invitation, I recently went to check out Poison Apple, a fairy tale inspired restaurant and bar which located at Pinnacle Annexe, Bandar Sunway.
In collaboration with Somersby as one of its flagship outlets in Kuala Lumpur, Poison Apple was opened by Caffeinees Group, the team behind Caffeinees Palace, Yamaguchi Fish Market, Black Market, Eight Gourmets Gala, Truly Wine and Winetrade.com.my with over 13 years of experience in the F&B industry.
The name Poison Apple is influenced by the classic fairytale Snow White and is designed as an escape from reality into a land of fantasy. The concept for Poison Apple is inspired by the Poison Apple Tavern which appeared in the animated movie Shrek, where villains gathered to have terrifying food and ‘unhappy hour’.
The journey at Poison Apple starts at the entrance with a charming little wooden Hobbit’s doorway and mini garden. Upon entering, you will be greeted by a smoky wishing well that dispenses beer, moving portraits of fairytale characters and holographic fairies, it is definitely an ambiance shrouded in mystery and intrigue.
Poison Apple adopts a new concept that is whimsical yet cozy whilst inventing a menu that brings together both Asian and Western influences but most importantly flavours for the taste buds of Malaysians, especially our love for spicy food.
The top 10 food recommendations at Poison Apple include seafood dishes such as the indulgent Lobster Omelette (poached lobster served in a stone pot with eggs) and their house speciality Seafood Tom Yum Mee Hoon.
One of the tantalizing meat dishes at Poison Apple, the Spicy Unicorn’s Leg, tender lamb shank cooked with fiery SzeChuan pepper sauce served in a hot stone pot.
A must-try for spicy and Mala fans are the Griffin Wings (signature chicken wings with a Mala kick for that numb and tingly sensation), Red Queen Spaghetti (Mala infused spicy pasta cooked with Szechuan pepper sauce with a choice of minced beef or chicken), as well as the Chilli Phoenix (tender smoked whole kampung chicken with a hint of applewood smokiness).
For Western cuisine lovers, you can try out their signature burger, The Beast Burger with thick juicy beef and fried cheese patty. Don’t miss out as well the Excalibur, the Sword in the Stone, an extra large garlic bread served with an abundance of savoury cheese goodness, made specially for the cheese lovers.
You can sample over 200 different wines and liquors sourced from all over the globe as well as a comprehensive range of beers and ciders cater for every taste bud. You can also try their fairy-tale themed bespoke cocktails or ‘potions’ delivered with a surprising and interesting twist. I had the Poison Apple Signature Cocktail, a special concoction of smooth-sipping vodka, green apple syrup and soda inspired by mermaid tales and finished with a daring presentation.
Whether it is to have cocktails at the bar, celebrations at the cozy lounge section or get-togethers at the main dining area, Poison Apple promises a spell-binding dining and drinking experience for everyone. The place is approximately 2,500 sq ft in size, making it an ideal and unique venue for private, intimate events and celebrations. It is recommended to book in advance for groups larger than 6 persons.
